Hi, I’m Mai

Trauma-informed,
Culturally Responsive Therapy

As the oldest child of a large immigrant family, I know first hand what it feels like to “hold it all together” when the internal experience may be telling a different story.

My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that our experiences, relationships, culture, and environments all shape the ways we learn to relate and move through the world. For many children of immigrants and people navigating multiple cultural worlds, there can be a complicated tension between honoring where we come from and making room for who we are becoming. Sometimes the patterns that once helped us feel safe, connected, or accepted can continue long after we need them in the same way. We may find ourselves overthinking, people-pleasing, striving for perfection, having difficulty setting boundaries, or feeling disconnected from what we actually need in the process.

Therapy can be a space to slow down, become more curious about ourselves, and gently reconnect with the parts of us that may have gotten lost or isolated along the way.

Clinically, I draw from somatic and body-based approaches, parts work, attachment-based therapy, and EMDR. I’m particularly interested in the ways our minds and bodies hold onto experiences, and how healing can involve more than simply understanding something intellectually. We may work together to build greater stability and self-awareness before gently approaching experiences that continue to affect you in the present. Depending on your needs and goals, therapy may involve noticing what happens in your body, becoming curious about different parts of yourself, exploring relational patterns, or using EMDR to process experiences that feel stuck.

My work is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and LGBTQIA+ affirming. I work with adults navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, family-of-origin experiences, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and the process of finding a greater sense of trust and belonging with the self.
